Description

"Well, not necessarily..."

Basic Information
Name: Jenya Sklar
Age17
Height5' 3"
Species: Shapeshifter
Species DescriptionJenya is a shapeshifter, and the form she takes is a silvery-grey cat; just your ordinary house-cat, so she can get around without attracting suspicion. Shifting itself is not painful, but a little bit uncomfortable as bones grow smaller and fur sprouts from her skin.
As her guise is a cat, she has inherited some cat-like tendencies from this part of herself; predators of cats, like large birds of prey or aggressive dogs, frighten her, and she is often a little jumpy or twitchy when scared or annoyed. She can overestimate how far she can jump or climb, and some of the stranger foods of the OW cafeterias will appeal to her if they have mouse blood or squirrel meat (though she will seriously regret eating them after a couple of hours.)
She is still learning to control her ability perfectly, and while she's gotten better at being able to control which parts of her body shift (super-life-like cat ears for ComicCon, anyone?) she still loses it sometimes and can be seen walking obliviously around with half of a tail or whiskers.

Abilities:
  • Can shapeshift into a grey cat
  • Logical and artistic
  • Has an innate understanding of animals (as a shapeshifter herself)
  • Can perform basic spells and charms verbally and with runes

Personal Information
Likes:
  • Art - She's a painter at heart. Her clothes almost always have paint splashed on them, and she's embraced it as a fashion statement.
  • Music - She loves electronica and has taken free online music theory classes because she wanted to. She wants to make EDM as a hobby some day.
  • Animals - With an innate understanding of creatures many stay away from, she loves to bond with and care for animals (especially her rats, Caseum and Parvos.)
  • Debating - Taking either side of any argument comes naturally to her, even if she doesn't agree with what she's arguing. She loves to dig deep into issues and figure out exactly where she stands, and was a prominent victor on her old high school's debate team.
  • Learning - She is a curious soul with quite a lot of useless (but interesting) information bouncing around in her head, like how to survive the zombie apocalypse. She enjoys reading up on things that might be useful one day, and always has a full class schedule; if there's an empty slot, she'll fill it with something that looks interesting.
Dislikes
  • Rules - "There's too many exceptions for the rules to even matter." Common-sense-oriented rules are alright, and so are easily-changed ones, but things like dress codes are too subjective to be practically enforced, in her opinion; and rules that have been set with no negotiation allowed drive her mad. (Think dumb things like "no running in the hallways" or "you have to have at least one boy and one girl in your group.")
  • Passive people - Think for yourselves! she shouts at them. While very open-minded, she's constantly analyzing her own opinion on matters, playing devil's advocate, and thinking critically. People who just accept what others tell them are her least favorite kind of people.
  • Restriction of creativity - Sort of tying into her hatred of unnecessary rules, she hates being restricted creatively. If a professor doesn't like her essay written from the perspective of the animal she captured for observation, she in turn doesn't like the professor.
  • Politics - Her need to form an opinion on each side of a debate makes elections a living hell for her. Even though she's not old enough to vote in her home country, she still takes voting very seriously and must decide what she feels about every. Single. Candidate. She loves having an opinion, but the price she pays for having one (lost sleep, buried under political flyers, election speeches running through her head at all times) is one she wishes she didn't feel obligated to pay.
Strengths:
  • Open-minded - She constantly reevaluates her opinions and stances on hot topics and issues. She's very willing to see things from another point of view.
  • Patient - While she's a "T" on the Myers-Briggs scale, she doesn't mind when someone doesn't understand something. It's only when they don't try to get it that she grows frustrated. As a result, she doesn't mind tutoring or helping people who are struggling to grasp a concept.
  • Artistic - She excels in most areas of the arts. She's a fantastic artist and painter, is musically gifted, and loves to read. She doesn't fancy herself a writer or poet, but she's not bad at it as long as it's creative (essays kill her.)
Weaknesses
  • Absent-minded - Jen's not always paying attention, and this gets her in trouble a lot. She daydreams a little too much.
  • Wishy-washy - She can be so open-minded that she's not sure where she stands, or she'll change her thoughts on something enough that it confuses her close friends. It really irks her when she's unsure of what she thinks, and she can't stand not having an opinion, so oftentimes she'll get wrapped up in random issues, like whether she should go vegetarian.
  • Bad at managing time - Jen pulls a lot of all-nighters and misses class if she stays up too late working on a sketch or didn't plan well enough for how much time she'd need on a paper. She does plan ahead... things just mess up her plans a lot. Her self-control needs a little work.
Goals:
  • Master her shapeshifting ability (aka be able to control it so that she's not walking around in public with whiskers on accident.)
  • Be "successful." She wants to do well in life, not just be happy (though she definitely wants to be happy.) She's an Enneagram type 3, and strives for success.
Fears:
  • Failure - Not "failing a test" failure, but "college dropout minimum wage single parent" failure. She's terrified of being in a preventable bad situation and helpless to get out of it.
  • Offending people - She's so open-minded (and out-spoken) that's she's afraid of accidentally offending people. She does her best to make sure she never takes things too far, but she's not always careful in the heat of the moment and fears she'll end a friendship or lose respect if she says something she doesn't mean.

Personality: {INTP, Type 3 :) I am a personality geek. I'm sorry.}
  • Fun-loving
  • Creative
  • Devil's Advocate
Jenya is fun.
She likes to laugh, hang out with friends, and goof off. If it's exciting and looks like it might be fun, she's open to doing it. She isn't usually silly, though. If it'll be useful to her in the future (archery lessons), she's much more likely to do it than if it's just dumb (TP-ing the Chronomancy Professor's office).
She's also creative; not only in an artistic sense, but also in an intelligent one. She loves art and music, and she excels at most of the fine arts. She also has many out-of-the box ideas and thoughts, like more efficient ways of doing something or a clever way to execute a student council campaign. She's open to correction (as long as it's not needlessly harsh) and often changes her ideas if she's shown a better way. Being told she's wrong doesn't bother her as long as it's done in good faith.
Her creativity and open-mindedness cause her to brainstorm, and this usually ends in friendly debates as she bounces her ideas and schemes off of someone else. She'll often argue sides she doesn't agree with in order to better understand the logic or the principles behind a debate. She likes to weigh pros and cons and come to her own opinion logically. Politics is always a bittersweet topic--she must have an opinion on every candidate and have a clear decision on who she wants to vote for... often the lesser of two evils.

TL;DR: Jenya is a fun, artsy, and logical girl who thinks critically about things, often playing Devil's Advocate to do so.

History:
Compared to the others at the academy, Jenya had quite a content childhood.
Her backstory is one that most people will find strange because it's so similar to a normal human's upbringing. Her father was also a shapeshifter, and her mother a human. Both were well aware of the supernatural world and raised their daughter accordingly. As a young child, she was homeschooled; this continued up through her high school years because, being unable to control the shiftings completely, Jen couldn't be with her 'typical' peers for extended periods of time. Despite this challenge, she became one of the more popular girls to hang out with in the homeschooling group of families in her town, and her exuberant personality enabled her to make friends even outside her regular social circles. Her childhood and teenage years were happy and relatively uneventful.
No one around them was anything but regular human, so Jen has barely experienced magic or other types of supernatural beings other than her own father. The supernatural world was nearly as strange to her as it would be to a regular human, but she worked hard to find out more about it before she arrived at the academy.

Misc. Information:
  • INTP, Enneagram type 3
  • Her hair is naturally blue, as her father experimented with a few charms on it to make it that way. Originally, it was a light brunette.

Character Relationships
Bullet; Green - Likes | Bullet; Black - Dislikes | Bullet; Blue - Unsure | Bullet; Yellow - Interested By | Bullet; Purple - Saddened By | Bullet; White - Fearful Of | Bullet; Pink - Crushing On | Bullet; Red - Love |

Kerzendocht Bullet; Yellow:bulletgreen:Bullet; Green - She's mostly amused by how much Kerzy talks. She definitely thinks Kerzy is funny and someone she wants to talk to more--she's also embarrassed for accidentally telling her her handwriting is awful. Really embarrassed.
Lillith - :bulletyellow::bulletblue::bulletgreen: - She likes her new roommate, but she doesn't know her very well. She's curious to get to know her some more. So far she thinks Lillith is nice and not too dull.
Theon - :bulletgreen::bulletyellow::bulletpurple: - She really likes Theon and thinks he's fun, and she'd like to talk to him more often. She wonders why he looks so sad, too, but she doesn't want to pry. Secretly she thinks he's kind of cute, but she'd probably strangle you if you even hinted at that.

Roleplaying Preferences
  • Notes are preferred for roleplay. Script feels unnatural to me, and I greatly prefer paragraph. I'm quite literate when it comes to RPs, so expect replies that are much longer than I usually intend. I don't care what form of RP you use (you can use script as much as you want!) as long as it's semi-literate. :)
  • I can't guarantee replies every day. I'll be traveling a lot this summer, so it might take up to 5 days to get back to you in a worst-case scenario. Sorry!
  • Skype: nightwings_99 {Please feel free to add me! Just mention you're from OW.}
Samples
Script Sample
Jenya: *twirling a pencil in one hand absently and staring out the window* What was the answer to number 5 again?
Asher: Did you actually do the problem? *scoffs playfully, amused*
Jenya: *mock-offended* What? You accuse me of cheating? *she hits him lightly on the arm*
Asher: *laughing* No, no... I got 4.6%, but I'm not sure I got it right.
Jenya: No, that's what I got. Quadratic formula, right?
{{{I can do script a little more literate than this, with more description than just action in the asterisks, but I greatly prefer paragraph to do that. Feel free to respond to me in script form if that's what makes you comfortable--I can do that!}}}
Lit Sample
"What was the answer to number five again?" Jenya asked absently, twirling a pencil in one hand while staring out the window. Arithmancy was pretty tedious this quarter. She heard Asher scoff.
"Did you actually do the problem?" he asked, a hint of amusement in his voice. She knew the corners of his lips were twitching without looking.
Smirking, she turned to him. "What? You accuse me of cheating?" Slapping him playfully on the arm, she leaned over to look at his paper.
"No, no," he laughed. "I got 4.6%, but I'm not sure I got it right." Jenya nodded.
"No, that's what I got. Quadratic formula, right?" She didn't mind math--it was logical and made sense once she understood the principles behind all the equations and theorems. Luckily, Asher didn't mind it either. They made a good study group.

ReferralI stated this in my last application, though you weren't doing the 50 points for a referral thing, so I'll put it here again. My friend BlueBlueFox always posts her assignments and applications on dA, and it got me interested; so I decided to apply! She posted her latest application just now, which reminded me of OW again... so you could say she referred me twice, I guess. ^^ ILY, Blue! <3

(Okay so I may or may not have to kill someone and bring them back to life for an Assignment..)

Lillith: "Psst... hey, how would you feel if I kinda maybe killed you then brought you back to life? I mean, not that I would do that or anything..." the brunette asked her blue-haired roommate, leaning over from the top bunk.
